As we are entering the busy spring season of outdoor play, here are a few reminders about court use, especially at Truxtun.
Annapolis Pickleball Club does not have permits allowing exclusive rights to use the courts at Truxtun, PAL, or Bestgate parks; therefore, we cannot stop non-members from using the courts or asking them to rotate, even when there are APC players waiting and using the sign-up board.
In the case of PAL and Bestgate, we can only limit use of our equipment to members only. If non-members are playing with their own equipment, they will have use of that court without rotating players or using the signup board.
For Truxtun, the same applies. The courts are open to the public and non-members are able to use and hold a court for their own play without rotating or using the signup. As a reminder, there are blended courts at Truxtun and we have portable nets in the storage boxes available for those busy times when more courts are needed.
We are aware that the Annapolis Parks department will be establishing rules of use and posting such rules once they are final. We are requesting APC participation in developing or reviewing the rules and have already offered some suggestions around limiting the amount of time a court can be used by a group before switching.
We would love if all pickleball players want to join APC and we hope that you will be friendly and inviting to those on the courts who have not joined; however, APC membership is not a requirement of playing pickleball at Truxtun, Bestgate or any of the City or County courts.
Finally, the board will consider getting court permits if usage conflicts become an issue. Please keep the Board informed.
Thank you for your understanding and we look forward to seeing you on the court!
