On Friday, October 16, 2026, Carol Mason’s family, friends and fellow APC members gathered at Truxtun Park for a heartfelt celebration of her life. Music, moving tributes from family and friends, and the unveiling of court and bench plaques made for a memorable gathering. Refreshments offered an opportunity to linger, share stories and remember all that Carol meant to so many.
Carol lived an extraordinary and wonderfully full life. Her work as a researcher and librarian reflected her curiosity and lifelong love of learning. She had a passion for the English language and literature, and she was a voracious reader who delighted in sharing a good book.
For more than two decades, Carol and her dear friend Jane Good exchanged books and recommendations, building a reading list that reflects both their wide-ranging interests and their special friendship. Jane prepared copies for the memorial gathering, where many attendees were eager to take one home.
We are pleased to share “Reading Fiction with Carol, 2001–2026” with the entire APC community. Whether you enjoy historical fiction, mysteries, espionage or stories that offer a fresh perspective on the world, we invite you to explore their selections.
Choosing a book from this list offers a simple, meaningful way to honor Carol’s memory—and to carry forward the joy she found in reading and friendship.
Our heartfelt thanks to Jane for sharing this personal tribute, and to everyone who helped make the gathering such a warm celebration of Carol’s life.
